//THE WARDROBE PROJECT//

  • Hello everyone! A slightly different post from me today. A knitting project. I don't know if I ever mentioned this here before, but I do know how to knit. And I actually enjoy knitting. It's the perfect activity to do when watching a series or a movie, and I love how you can do it without actually moving from your couch.

I wanted a mustard colored scarf for a long time, but I couldn't find one I liked. When I saw this mustard yarn I knew I had to make one. As always I browsed through Ravelry for some inspiration and ideas and I found the Panda Scarf, a free knitting pattern. It was perfect for what I had in mind. I used a pair of 10mm(US 15) needles and this bulky(12 ply) yarn.

I love the finished scarf and I've already worn it tons of times!

You can find me on Ravelry here.

So what do you think? Do you knit? What are you currently knitting?

Hello guys! Boy February goes by fast! I've been sewing quite a lot these past couple weeks! Photographing and blogging though.....well, let's say that's another story! But digging through my laptop I realised I never shared with you my Phlox tester version!

Phlox is the second pattern from Lindsay Woodward patterns. It has two versions, a tee and a tunic and offers two neckline options (scoop-neck and V-neck), two sleeve options (short or long) and an optional hem band. I went for the tunic version with the scoop neck option, long sleeves and the hem band. I cut a size 10 with no alterations and used a soft, light-weight grey jersey.

Phlox is a lovely wardrobe basic you can transform many ways and it's perfect for everyday wear. I actually need to make another one, because this one was gifted to my mum, after her many hints about how much she loves it and how much she wants one exactly like this one!

Who doesn't love a great wardrobe basic, right?

*Disclaimer: I received this pattern for free to test, but all opinions are my own. I sent feedback on the draft to Lindsay, which was incorporated into the final pattern. I was not paid to test this pattern, and was given a free copy of the final pattern as compensation.*

Hello everyone! Since I didn't participated in last year's Wardrobe Architect, I was super excited when Kristen from Colette announced this year's challenge. If you don't know what the Wardrobe Architect is, it's basically a challenge to help you build a wardrobe that will represent your style, lifestyle and personality. You can read more about it over at Coletterie.

My goals for the Wardrobe Architect challenge are to define my style more and build a wardrobe that suits my life and expresses my personality. I believe that this will make my sewing more efficient and will prevent me from making or buying things carelessly.

January's goal was:"Find your core style and explore shapes"

Since I love organising things I started with a binder and since I'm a paper person all the way I printed and completed the worksheets from last year's weeks 1-4. These worksheets make you document and understand better your history, philosophy, culture etc. behind your style, as well as your style icons and what words best describe your style. That really helped me to think deeper about my style and see the connections between my fashion choices. I created a Pinterest board and a Polyvore collection with photos that best represent my personal style, silhouettes and aesthetic.

    DEFINING MY STYLE

After completing all of the worksheets the 5 words I came up with to describe my style were:

    Simple
    Sultry
    Cozy
    Effortless
    Practical

    DEFINING MY SILHOUETTES

For my silhouettes, I went back thinking what makes me feel comfortable and put together. I love tight bottoms with loose tops, mini dresses, flare bottoms with crop tops, maxi skirts with loose tops and I can't stand very fitted tops. I love playing with proportions in my clothes to create optical interest.

    CHOOSING PATTERNS

Lastly I picked some pattern that I thought would fit nicely into my wardrobe. I choose some basic tops like the Mandy Boat Tee and the Plantain t shirt, as well as some Ginger Jeans and the Victoria Blazer. You can see all of them on my Pinterest board.

This is my work for #WAchallenge2015. Are you participating? I'd love to hear your thoughts on defining ones style!

Hello again! Second post of the year, but actually I'm cheating. This skirt was made in 2014, but I didn't get around to photographing it until now. Well, on way or another, I'm not gonna getcha, but I'm going to tell you about it.

This is the Senna dress & skirt pattern from Lindsay Woodward patterns. I was actually a pattern tester for this pattern, back in September. You can see the LBD I made using this pattern here, together with my long gone and much missed summer tan. This time I went for the skirt variation. This is such a simple make, takes absolutely no time and uses a minimum amount of fabric! Check, check and check! What else do we need?

Again I cut a size 8 with no alterations and used a medium weight grey jersey and a 1/4" elastic for the ruching. In my opinion this is the perfect variation of the classic stretchy skirt, because the ruching gives it an optical interest and it's perfect to hide the winter belly under! Late night snacking on these cold winter nights anyone? or is it just me?

So what do you think of this make? Are you a fan of ruching or do you prefer the plain jersey skirt better?

Hi guys! First make of 2015 is here and its lovely! This is the Linden sweatshirt pattern from Grainline studio. Another great make from Jen!

I chose View A for a classic sweatshirt look. I cut a size 8 with no alteration and used a black fleece I had in my stash. The drafting and the instructions in this pattern are beautiful and very well worked and everything comes together without any fuss . It was a really quick make. I sewed everything in my serger and the whole garment took less than 2 hours. I cheated and printed the Print at Copy shop version of the PDF pattern, so that speeded things up.

I love this make! It's super comfy and perfect for both in and outside the house. Definitely a pattern I'm going to use again in the future! Jen has also a post over at her blog with inspiration for different variations of the pattern. Make sure to check it out! So what do you think?

This week had its ups and downs for sure. It was all about returning to everyday life and organising. You know it's all about setting the tone for the new year. But one of the hardest decision had to be made this week also. After 8 wonderful years we had to put down our dog due to health issues. He'll be missed for sure!

    So this week I was:

    EATING

Lately I'm obsessed with soups! This week I made two new recipes and I loved both of them! One is this power protein one from EssieButton and the other one is this cauliflower creamy one from The Pioneer Woman Cooks. I definitely suggest both of them for these cold winter nights!

    READING

This week is all about organising and making lists. I loved By Hand London's New Year's Re-sew-lutions and Sew Mama Sew's tips for transitioning to a (mostly) handmade wardrobe. Both helped me get my sewing mojo back. Now it's all about planning.

    LISTENING TO

I've been obsessed with this Billie Jean cover from the Civil Wars.

    LOVING

This quote from textile designer Audrey Ducas: "A woman is at her most beautiful when she's kind, lively and imaginative, goes through life consciously and stays authentic, however she looks." You can read her whole interview "Beauty tips from a French girl" over at A Cup of Jo.

So how was your week? Did you do anything exciting?

    Happy new week everybody!
