//THE WARDROBE PROJECT//

  •  Aaaaaaand she's here!! I'm sure you all know by the title, what I'm talking about! You've seen hints and teasers of her for quite a long time and the time has finally come. Let me properly introduce you to the lovely Alix! She is the newest addition to the By Hand London squad.

A beautiful design, inspired by the dreamy glamour of the '70s, featuring some pretty interesting details(V-neck yoke, inset waistband, billowing raglan sleeves, tie back belt and a full skirt, pleated at centre front and back). And her best feature? No zipper!! No type of closure whatsoever, no fiddling with installing it just right, no nerve-wracking stage, no cursing! Just slide it on and peruse your way through the day or night!

The pattern comes with 3 variations( a maxi dress, a mini dress and a tunic), but of course you can play with the length to achieve your perfect version. The pattern recommends light to medium weight wovens, which I totally agree with, since you want to use something with a nice movement to it.

I made Variation 2, the mini dress. As I'm not a standard size, I graded from a 8/12 bust to a 10/14 waist and hips and the fit was pretty spot on. Other than that, I didn't make any alterations to the pattern, which was pretty amazing! I mean, even the length didn't need any fiddling with! Oh By Hand London ladies, how you cease to amaze me every time!

The pattern came together flawlessly and it was a fairly easy sew, which demanded just a little focus to get the details right. The instructions were nicely illustrated and really clear and easy to follow.

I used a soft drapey viscose fabric and paired it with thigh-high boots for the ultimate 70s vibe! It's possibly one of the most comfortable dresses I own.

*Disclaimer: I received this pattern from By Hand London patterns for free to test, but all opinions are my own. I sent feedback on the draft to the girls, which were included in the final pattern. I was not paid to test this pattern, and was given a free copy of the final pattern as compensation.*

Happy October everyone! Autumn is officially here!

Currently I'm in the process of planning and sewing my perfect fall wardrobe. So, I'm here to show you my first fall make!

The pattern is from My Image magazine. My Image is a Dutch based sewing magazine created by a Jet and Martin. I'm always up for trying new sewing magazines and books, so I was really excited to see what this one had to offer! And I wasn't disappointed! The magazine comes with 16 sewing patterns for women in sizes 34-52(XS-3XL) and contains instructions in 5 different languages!!!The designs are modern and really well drafted, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

I choose to make the M1665 dress/top. I cut a size 38 for the bust, grading to a size 40 for the waist and hips, but I did modified the pattern a little.
I wanted to make a long top with open sides, since I have a RTW summer top like that which I love. Since I wanted a more flowy fit, I straightened the side seams (connect the underarm with the hem with a straight line). I used the dress length of the pattern for the back and I shortened the front by 16,5cm. Lastly, I only sewed the sides for 12cm under the armhole. The neckline is finished with a binding and I used a twin needle for the sleeves, but I left all hems and side seams raw, because..., well ain't nobody got time for that!

I used the loveliest, softest ribbed knit in a gorgeous evergreen color, which gave the perfect drape to this top!

I really love this top! It is cosy, comfy and has plenty of room for all the fall pastry eating I'm planning on doing! I don't know about you, but it ticks every singe thing in my list! And I really recommend checking out the magazine!

Jet and Martin were kind enough to give a 25% discount on all their products until the 1st of November! Just enter the code: wardrobe. They also have a lovely magazine full of children's sewing patterns, called B-Trendy, that is really worth checking out!

So, how about you? What is on your sewing table right now?

*I only ever share things I like and that I'll think you’ll like as much. The #13 issue of My Image magazine was kindly provided too me by Jet and Martin. All opinions and thoughts are 100% my own.*

Hello everyone! I'm here to share a project that has been in the works for some time. A while back, the lovely ladies from Gather contacted me for a pattern testing. I was a fan of their work for a while and of course I was excited to work with one of their patterns! I mean look at these beautiful pattern illustrations!

I tested their new Azaire pattern, a chic and flattering top and dress. It features a fitted bust, curved yoke, boat neckline, peplum, back darts and an invisible zip. There are two sleeve variations; ¾ length sleeves with a petal cuff or short petal sleeves. I made the top option, but I shortened it by 10cm in order to suit my style better. I went with the short petal sleeve option and I couldn't be happier.

Although the pattern calls for a woven fabric, I decided to be a rebel and I went with a stretch lace fabric for the front and sleeves and a see-through knit for the back panels. I cut a size 12 for the bust, grading to a size 14 for the waist and hips, because I wanted the top to have a more oversized fit. I didn't add a lining and I didn't need any zipper closure, due to the stretch of the fabric.

The pattern is addressed to intermediate sewers, but I believe that an advanced beginner with a little patience would be able to tackle it with no problems. It is a really well drafted pattern, with easy and very clear instructions. And what I love most is that it comes printed in a thick paper( torned rice paper drama, anyone?).

Overall, I loved working with this pattern and I can't wait to make a long sleeved version!

And the good news are that the lovely girls from Gather were so kind to offer me an extra copy to giveaway to one of you! All you have to do is leave a comment telling me how do you plan to make this pattern. I will pick a winner next Monday(Sept.26).

*Disclaimer: I received this pattern from Gather for free to test, but all opinions are my own. I sent feedback on the draft. I was not paid to test this pattern, and was given a free copy of the final pattern as compensation.*

Hello friends! Long time, no see, but you know......summer! Sea, sun, vacations, family and friends! It was a lovely time, but now I'm ready for fall! Bring on the lower temperatures, winter fabrics, hot drinks and cozy nights. For me September always marks a new beginning, it's like a fresh start and as we are preparing for the season change, I can't stop dreaming about my fall wardrobe!

I'm in the planning(favorite!) stage right now, so lot's of pinning, drawing and list making is happening.

Together with the new month, lots of fun stuff are coming. Rachel from House of Pinheiro is hosting #sewphotohop, a fun daily sewing related photograph challenge. Fringe Association is hosting the #fringeandfriendsKAL2016, a knit-along challenge with no patterns allowed this year. Named is releasing their new "EvolutionTheory" collection on the 1st of September. By Hand London are hosting a Charlie dress sewalong. And don't forget there is a new Seamwork issue coming. Nothing better than a full month of sewing happenings, am I right?

So, how about you? Are you excited for the new season? Are you participating in any of the challenges? Are you a planner or do you prefer going with the flow?

Lastly, another reason that I've been quiet around here lately is that me & my mum opened our first Etsy shop. We combined our love for handmade and all things sew+knit. So it will combine made to measure clothes, knitting patterns, knitting bags, as well as hand dyed yarns. Have a look if you'd like!

Have an awesome new month everyone!

....let's go to the beach, each, let's go get away....Oh hello there! With all the high temperatures we are experiencing recently I can't help but think all about sunny beaches, vacations and of course beachwear! Caftans, linen shirtdresses and off-the-shoulder dresses are only some of the endless possibilities!

So, what's your beachwear attire this summer? ☀

Hello, hello! Summer wardrobe is in full mode and I couldn't be happier! You have to admit, there's something really satisfying in summer sewing. The minimum amounts of fabrics, the light and airy textiles, the colors and the -usually- fewer sewing hours.

This project was one exceptional example of summer sewing. It used only 1.5m of a beautiful viscose fabric, it has a lot of interesting details and it came together in one afternoon.

If you are a long time reader of this space you will know that I much prefer sewing with indie patterns and I have expressed these feelings a lot of times. I just find the fit and style of indie sewing patterns much more modern and well drafted.

A few years back, I used to buy every single issue of the Burdastyle magazine, but most of the times I would sew only one or none of the designs. I got a bit frustrated by the old-fashioned designs and the bad fit of the final garments, that I stopped buying it. But browsing through the Internet a few months back, I came across the May issue and I found myself liking many designs, as well as their style. So I thought I give it another go and buy the issue. And I was pleasantly surprised. Burdastyle has put a real effort to modernise the magazine and the patterns. I have already traced six patterns from the magazine.

I thought I'd start with the Pleated Shorts 05/2016 #102A that immediately caught my eye. They feature waistband pleats, decorative back pockets, belt loops and a handmade fabric belt. I was immediately sold. For these, I cut a size 40, but I ended up taking in the sides by 0,5cm. The waist is just a tiny bit roomy still, so I think I could have gotten away with a size 38. I used 1,5m of a viscose fabric that sewed up beautifully. The print of the fabric, makes it difficult to detect all the features of the shorts, but I couldn't resist to this b&w splash print.

Overall I love these shorts and they are quickly becoming a summer wardrobe staple. I think I'll have to make another pair soon.

A big thank you to my friend Kristi for modelling the shorts in these pictures.

What are you sewing lately? Is it all about summer or winter sewing on your part of the world?

Hello guys! The temperatures are really high here in Greece right now and I'm full on working through my summer wardrobe! Lots of new projects are coming in this space soon, so stay tuned! For now here is some summer inspiration and a new blog template! Hope you like it!

Hello beautiful people! Summer is here, the sun is shining, the days are big, the spirit is high and the mood is bright (oh! did I just rhymed there? maybe not). A desperate need of some interior design changes was in the air for quite a long time now! So, when the lovely girls from the Fabric Yard contacted me for a guest blog post, I couldn't be happier!

Fabric Yard is an online company with a great range of both retro and modern quirky designer cotton prints, based in the North coast of Ireland. They really had me at quirky! The hardest part was actually picking a fabric. I spent a good amount of time browsing through the endless fabric possibilities, unable to set on one. I seriously challenge you to pick just one fabric from the shop, without hesitating.

I finally settled for this amazing fabric, called "Where's My 'Stache?" in White, by Alexander Henry. They kindly sent me 2m of fabric, but then it came the second hard part, deciding what to do with it. I knew it would make a lovely skirt or pair of shorts, but I loved the fabric so much, I wanted to be able to see it everyday! And then it hit me! It had to be a home decor piece! And what better, than squishy, comfortable cushions?

I made two large-envelope style- pillowcases for my plain-old white pillows, using this tutorial. The fabric is really a top notch cotton! It sewed and pressed amazingly good, and I couldn't be happier! The cushions brightened up my living room instantly and they make me smile every time I pass by.

I think, I'm a home decor sewing convert. I never thought it would be something I would enjoy, but I really enjoyed sewing these. A huge thank you to the Fabric Yard for sending me this amazing fabric for free is due!

So, what about you? Do you enjoy sewing home decor pieces? And are you a fun of quirky fabric prints?

Hello lovely people and happy new month! So May is over, and I'm here for my final Me Made May'16 recap. This year I pledged to wear as many handmade garments as possible. I didn't set a specific number of garments or days. Since I decluttered my wardrobe in late March my handmade wardrobe is very limited and since I didn't sew many new garments the last couple of months I thought I'd work with what I had. Lately I focus more on quality and sewing things that I really love and enjoy wearing, rather than quantity. So with that said, this May I wore 16 me-made items:

    Tops: 10
    Outerwear: 3
    Bottoms: 2
    Knitwear:1

Out of these, 8 were from indie sewing patterns, 1 was from a knitting pattern and 3 were self drafted. If you're interested, these are the patterns:
    Mona jacket by WearLemonade
    Victoria Blazer by ByHandLondon
    Beatrix skater dress by Named
    Opal Cardigan by Paprika Patterns
    Plantain Tee by Deer&Doe
    Senna Skirt by Lindsay Woodward
    Sarah Shirt by ByHandLondon
Short and Sweet sweater by Pickles

To be honest, looking back to this month, I realise that my wardrobe is really boring. Yes, it is practical and yes, it does suit my day-to-day life, but it wouldn't hurt to have a little more umph! I definitely have to sew more things for my wardrobe, but to be fair that is something I already knew before participating. Also, I seriously need to add more bottoms, as well as more dresses (greek summer heat is sooo close!).

It was really fun participating for the 3rd time and seeing what everyone else was wearing! I sure have a lot of sewing to do, and I can't wait! So how about you? Did you participate in MMM? Did you learn anything new about your wardrobe this time around?

Hello everyone. Let me start by saying that, since I'm (obviously) a jeans and tee kind of girl, my handmade t-shirt game was really shameful. Last weekend I decided to change that and I made 4 new Plantain tees. So, needless to say that I wore a Plantain tee every single day this week!

23/5: Swing back beige Plantain and RTW sweatpants for running errands
24/5: Swing back grey Plantain and RTW black skinny jeans for a coffee date with friends
25/5: Same Plantain as yesterday  (without any shame!)
26/5: Striped Plantain and RTW black high-waisted jeans for drinks with friends
27/5: Black Plantain and RTW flares for a coffee day with the bestie
28/5: The only day of the week that a Plantain wasn't involved :P. Hand-knitted sweater and RTW jean shorts for a stroll around the city

I'm really sad that May is almost over, but I can't wait to start filling the gaps in my wardrobe that I spotted during Me Made May. Have you realized anything new about your wardrobe during this year's MMM?

Hello everyone! I hope you're having a wonderful May so far! It's this time of the week again. I'm here to share my me-made wardrobe of yet another week!

15/5: A self-drafted knit tank top with my RTW flares, and my favorite RTW cover up

17/5: A secret project, that I'll share soon, for a night out with friends

19/5: My freshly done short and sweet sweater from Pickles

21/5: My By Hand London Sarah Shirt for a stroll in the sun

Can you believe that we are nearly done with Me Made May? Have you enjoyed the process?

Hello everyone! So, it's already the second week of May! Like, seriously, where has this year gone?

Here is the round up of my second week. I know it's not a lot, but this year I'm trying to be realistic with documenting my me-made wardrobe and the way I incorporate them in my day to day wardrobe.

9/5: Loungin around the house in my striped Deer&Doe Plantain tee and RTW sweatpants

10/5: Night out in my Lindsay Woodward Senna skirt

11/5: Off to work in my By Hand London Sarah Shirt

13/5: Self drafted tank top and flares for work

So, are you enjoying Me Made May so far? Are you participating or are you watching from the sides?
